Lately, becoming more visible hasn’t felt safe.
There’s been this quiet, persistent tension in my body, a kind of shrinking, a hesitation. A fear that if I show up fully, if I really let myself be seen, something bad will happen.
Not in a dramatic, obvious way. But in those smaller ways we know too well.
The comment.
The silence.
The scrutiny.
The way people pull away when you take up more space.
And I realised, I’m staring my Witch Wound right in the face.
What Is the Witch Wound?
The Witch Wound is ancient. It’s the fear of being too much, too loud, too powerful, too different. It’s the collective memory that women who spoke up, who led, who healed, who knew too much, were punished.
Historically, punished literally. Persecuted, silenced, destroyed.
Now, it’s more subtle. But it’s still here.
Visibility and Fear: A Modern Coercive Control
I recently saw Tori Dunlap being absolutely slammed with online abuse - for helping women make money.
And what hit me the hardest wasn’t just the comments. It was her fear that other women, watching her being attacked, might not chase their own dreams. That they’d shrink back. That they’d think, “Is this the price for being visible?”
And honestly? That hit home.
It’s 2025, and women are still punished for ambition, confidence, for simply existing in power. We don’t burn witches at the stake anymore, but women are still being burned. Online. At work. In the systems that expect us to stay small.
The Stats Behind the Fear:
Recent studies have shown that women are disproportionately harassed online.
One global study found that 58 per cent of girls and young women have experienced some form of online harassment.
73% of women journalists report being targeted with online abuse.
Women, particularly women of colour, receive more threats, doxxing, and intimidation when they express strong opinions or claim leadership online.
It’s a form of coercive control.
The message is clear: stay small, stay quiet, or face the consequences.
Fear becomes the tool to keep us in line.
Not by silencing us directly, but by making visibility feel dangerous.
My Witch Wound Today
I’ve noticed myself pulling back.
Hesitating before I post.
Softening my words, making them more palatable.
Avoiding topics I know might trigger people.
Not because I don’t have something to say, but because I’ve started to fear what saying it might bring.
This is the Witch Wound in action.
It whispers: Blend in. Don’t stand out. Don’t risk it.
Reclaiming Power (With Help)
So, I’m working on it.
Not by forcing myself to be louder.
But by noticing when fear is running the show.
By working with my brilliant coach Ceryn Rowntree, who also happens to be a Primal Witch, which is incredibly helpful when you’re doing this kind of work. Ceryn gets it, in her bones.
We’re exploring:
Who benefits when I stay small?
What am I protecting, and is it really me?
How much of this fear is mine, and how much have I inherited?
With her support, I’m learning to lead myself gently back to visibility, not because it’s easy, but because it’s mine.
Why the Right Support Matters
When you’re working with something as deep as the Witch Wound, who you work with matters.
This isn’t just mindset stuff. It’s body, soul, ancestry.
You need someone who understands fear, not just confidence. Someone who knows the patterns, the history, and how to hold space for what’s real, without rushing you to “just be brave.”
Ceryn is that person for me.
And if you’re looking for someone to help you with this work, I’d say this:
Find someone who knows what it feels like.
Find someone who doesn’t just tolerate your power, but honours it.
Find someone who lets you move at your own pace.
An Invitation
If you’ve felt it too, the shrinking, the self-censorship, the fear of being seen, you’re so not alone.
This isn’t about being fearless. It’s about being aware.
Let’s name it. Let’s call it what it is.
And let’s decide, together, that fear won’t be the thing that leads.
Because we weren’t made to blend in.
We were made to change things.
An Invitation to Rise
If this resonates, if you’ve felt the Witch Wound holding you back, if visibility has started to feel unsafe, if you’re tired of shrinking just to survive, come and work with me on this.
In my Rise Above/Unfuckwithable programme, we go deep into the places where Good Girl Conditioning, the Witch Wound, and fear-based control have taken root. Together, we’ll unravel these patterns, and build a new, more powerful way to lead.
You don’t have to carry this alone.
You don’t have to stay small.
Let’s rise, together.
